Water, Water, Everywhere at Lake Mayfield Resort

Lake Mayfield Resort & Marina There are those vacationers who, when on the road, prefer destinations of a specific kind. The rugged attraction of the mountains, perhaps. The dry and serene surroundings of the desert. The lush allure of the forest. Or the calming, almost primal draw of water.

For those of the latter persuasion, few places in the U.S. can beat the state of Washington in the Pacific Northwest. And within those boundaries, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better scene than Lake Mayfield Resort and Marina in the southwestern part of the state.

"The resort is knockdown gorgeous, and only 20 minutes off Interstate I-5 on Hwy. 12, which glides over the mountains on the south side of Mount Rainier," said Brad Lansing, partner in the resort. "We’re ideally, centrally located between Seattle and Portland. There are waterfront RV sites, 170 boat slips, fishing for tiger muskie, trout, bass, and landlocked salmon, and so much more to make for a wonderful visit."

Lake Mayfield Each of the RV sites is gravel (and isn’t the rich crunching of gravel under your tires the aural indicator that you’ve gotten away from it all?). Most have a small lawn and every one has a picnic table—the perfect setting for sitting and gazing at the beautiful waters. Of course, if you want to get up and out you can hike onto the resort’s own private island, which is even equipped with a lighthouse, and is a place where you can camp, truly back to nature. Boats, kayaks and canoes are available for rental.

The RV sites also have a fire ring or barbecue, water and power (all have 30-amp and many have 50-amp service). Many are pull-through sites, with sites 7, 8, 9 and 10 popular with motorhomes, as they like to drive in facing the lake.

Lake Mayfield Resort’s marina sits on a protected cove that leads to one of the largest freshwater lakes in Washington. The docks, with gas pump and boat launch, are all new. In fact, the entire resort has been completely renovated in the last couple of years, including the well appointed rental condos and tent campsites, the store and pavilion.

Lake Mayfield "There’s truly something for everyone of all ages at Lake Mayfield Resort and Marina, including a fireside room, clubhouse, and new restaurant and lounge," Lansing said. "And when I say everyone, I mean everyone — two bald eagles have recently made their home at the resort. In fact, the wildlife in the area is simply amazing."

Only three miles away, for another type of natural beauty, is DeGoede’s Bulb Farm and Gardens, open every day and stocked with unusual plants, annuals and perennials in season, house plants, yard ornaments and statuary and thousands of hanging flower baskets — all at farm prices. You can also walk the tulip fields in April and the iris fields in May. A bargain for picking up cut flowers for the RV.

Exquisite in the winter, stunning in the summer, Lake Mayfield is one of the few resorts in the area that is open year round, and it’s only an hour’s drive to Mount St. Helens and an hour-and-a-half to Mount Rainier.

Lake Mayfield Resort and Marina is located at 350 Hadaller Road, Mossyrock, WA 98564; phone toll free at 866-985-2357 or e-mail info@lakemayfield.com and visit www.lakemayfield.com.
