Home away from home at Wilderness Lakes
By Stephon Guidroz - Member Services

Wilderness LakesEnjoy a home away from home! As you make your descent over the hill on Holland road, you're surrounded by greenery in every direction. You can even catch a glimpse of the park through the trees. When I arrived, everything was ready and I checked in into a beautiful spacious garden home. I was amazed to see the stocked catfish creek ran right behind my site. My first night there was so quiet, no city sounds at all. Upon wakening, my family walked over to the adult lodge for a meet and greet breakfast. This was a great experience because we were able to meet great campers from different parts of the country.

Wilderness LakesAfter breakfast, my uncle and I went over to the general store and purchased 2 fishing passes. We rigged our rods and cast our lines right behind our site. It wasn't long before my uncle's line started to pull. That ended up being one of his 3 catches of the day. After fishing, we went on a scenic bike ride around this 80-acre preserve. It was beautiful - ducks walking around, squirrels running up trees, families setting up tents. At Wilderness Lakes, you get a serene atmosphere with a great outdoor feeling.

Wilderness LakesAt night, we all played an entertaining game of bid whist while telling stories and laughing. I love how we were able to spend quality time together as family. The inside of the well-lit garden home was set up really nicely. The floor plan was open, the kitchen was remodeled, and all of the appliances were fairly new. Surprisingly, the pull out sofa bed was very comfortable. Before leaving the next morning, we got in a couple rounds of miniature golf.

Between the weather, the kind employees, the spacious accommodations, lush green surroundings, and the many amenities and activities, I've never stayed at a better campground. Whether you're 14 or 75 years old, there's something here for everyone.
